Ed Connole

I have over twenty years’ experience running voluntary sector organisations in London and the Northwest,  commencing with running The Shakespearean Young People’s Theatre Company in 1996. Based in London and Crewe the theatre company brought Shakespeare to young people up and down the country.  In 2000 I oversaw the building and subsequent development of Valley Community Theatre in Liverpool. For the 2008 I produced four projects for Liverpool’s Capital of Culture celebrations, this was whilst I was Director of Toxteth TV. These projects included a Quebec  Liverpool co production; ‘Portrait Croises’ and  ‘Tales from Far Away’, the largest Creative education project involving over 400 students, artists and musicians.

Presently I am Director of ALL FM, one of the largest community radio stations in the UK and a recent recipient of ‘The Manchester Award’. In all the organisations that I have led, the challenges have been diverse, but the one constant has been the need to generate revenue to meet core costs, facilitate projects and engage the more vulnerable in our communities.

I have successfully accessed funds for a diverse range of projects and organisations from funders such as Lottery (ACE, AWA, HLF, LSF, Youth Music), the Tudor Trust, and Children in Need. Additionally I have helped establish trading companies with the aim of generating revenue for the charity.

My belief is simply that the best people to serve the community are those from the community. Voluntary organisations are usually made up of people going ‘above and beyond’ in order to seek the best for their communities. But to make it long term, the organisations need to be sustainable. I want to help.
